End of Week Review 6/30/2017

It was 241 years ago, on July 4, 1776, the Second Continental Congress announced through the Declaration of Independence that the 13 American colonies no longer considered themselves under British rule.  Now, we have the United States of America, 50 states with 16 territories under a government of representation. We celebrate that independence today with fireworks (symbol of the gun and cannon fire of war for freedom), picnics and cookouts, baseball games, and parades. We also have the day off from work, for most people. We Americans do love our freedom!

I don't know if you realize it, but the Liberty Bell, which first rang in the tower of the Pennsylvania State House in 1751, has the inscription from Leviticus 25:10 "Proclaim Liberty Throughout All the Land Unto All the Inhabitants thereof." This passage refers to the Year of Jubiliee when all debts are cancelled and all slaved are freed. Christians enjoy a new Jubilee when our debts are cancelled and we are freed from slavery  to sin. Image from Independence National Park of Pennsylvania.

There is another freedom many of us enjoy, freedom from the bondage of sin to the freedom of salvation in Christ. Each of us can celebrate an Independence Day, the day we accepted Jesus Christ as our Savior. I call it the "Happy New Birthday!" day. What day did you accept Jesus as your Savior? Do you celebrate? If so, how? I would love to hear from you!

There are other Independence Days we can celebrate, as well. What about independence from bondage to food, tobacco, alcohol, porn, etc? There are a number of addictions that hold people captive to it's seduction, draining them of joy and freedom. Have you lost 10 pounds? Celebrate! Have you been free from smoking or chewing tobacco for a while? Celebrate! What about alcohol or pornography? If so, celebrate! If not, declare today as the start of your freedom from it's bondage. Write your own Declaration of Independence from ____________ beginning today. You will be glad you did! Let me know so we can celebrate with you and cheer you on.

In case you missed them:

By the way, just posted this week, is my guest post on Urgentway.com

I need to declare an Independence from Perfectionism Day today. My body is screaming at me because my immune system has been causing not-so-friendly fire on my body this week. I did get two good workouts in earlier in the week and work on several projects, though. If I continue to fight against it, I will be down a lot longer. Some days I can do anything and everything, other days not.

Have a blessed Independence Day, however and whatever freedoms you celebrate!

Very beautiful article. As you said working towards and having the passion to bring out the exceptional end result could be very important.
