Diet is "DIE" with a "T" on the End!

weight, health, fitnessWhen I talk with people about what they want to accomplish with their exercise plans, most of the time, I hear about the diets they've tried and failed. One question I ask is this, "If a diet is supposed to help you reach those goals, then what went wrong?" The main response goes like this, "Oh, I lost weight, but when I stopped, the weight came right back plus a few pounds!" My response, "You can LOSE weight with most any diet, but maintaining the weight is not possible on diets like that." Some of those diets have really bad side effects. The truth of the matter is that diets are usually very bad at helping you reach AND maintain your goals.

Most diets delete entire food groups either in a progression or entirely.  YOU NEED ALL OF THE FOOD GROUPS!  What happens is that your body becomes deprived of valuable nutrients, resulting in malnutrition.  Even if you take a supplement, excluding food groups can alter the processing of the supplements. Odd things can happen like the overgrowth of one side of the thyroid causing a malfunction that causes--- weight gain! There are other effects, too.Keep in mind that Dr. Atkins died of a heart attack! The Atkins diet has been proven to have very negative consequences! So do many others.  It is a matter of learning good stewardship of the body to glorify God--- not self.

Diets certainly sell books and products. The reason they are available to you is for the author and companies backing them to make money--not necessarily help you.  Buyer beware!  The author may have had good intentions going in, but the bottom line is money runs the show. The same goes for weight loss concoctions. The sales people are smiling all the way to the bank!

What most people really want is to get the weight off and keep it off.  The answer is very simple: eat right and  exercise.  Our Healthy Lifestyle program helps people learn how to make healthy changes that last a lifetime. Join me this Fall!  If you can maintain doing the study for one year, you are very likely to have lifelong change.  It is not a 12 week study that ends up on your bookshelf collecting dust while you collect pounds. I have met people from the Weigh Down workshops and a couple of others who are overweight who proudly announce that they went through that study as they stuff donuts in their mouths! What happened? Seriously, they made the same mistake most dieters do. I want to help you get the weight off and keep it off!

Thank you for reading my blog post "Diet is DIE with a T on the End". Your question has me wondering what you mean. But I will try to answer it as best as possible. Most diets require people to eliminate entire food groups such as carbohydrates (pasta, bread, cereals, etc). The Atkins Diet and the Paleo Diet are like this except the Paleo diet allows people vegetable carbs, but no grains. There are vitamins and minerals that only come from grains. Deficiencies of vitamins and minerals can cause serious health problems. They can also cause an overload of vitamins and minerals from the foods that these diets deem as acceptable. Overdoses of vitamins and minerals, even water soluble vitamins can also cause health problems. No one should have to take supplements unless their doctor recommends it. We only absorb 40-60% of vitamins and minerals from supplements. Diets are not the answer to long-term healthy weight management. Eating a balanced diet of unprocessed foods in proper serving sizes and regular exercise is key to reaching and maintaining a healthy weight. This is why I offer the First Place 4 Health groups. This group helps people not only learn how to eat right and exercise, it also helps people achieve balance in their lives. God bless
