We were out last week in Florida for the Sun & Fun Fly-in. It's an amazing place with everything that flies, pretty much. Not only were there single and double engine planes, but there were gliders, powered parachutes, trikes, gyro-copters, and more.We had a good time! By the way, this plane has no wings, tail or front portion! It is the hull of a Lancair Evolution. The company expects to finish it and fly it to Oshkosh.
Did you know there are health and fitness aspects to being a pilot? Pilots have to have a medical exam every two years to stay licensed. There are different grades which determine what and when they are able to fly. It also makes a difference in how much fuel they can carry. I put up the Guts to Gallons Challenge this past fall and am considering what to keep and what to change. If you or someone you know is an aviation buff, email or message me below to let me know what you think for the Guts to Gallons Challenge!
While we were in Florida, we decided to check out the west side of the state. During our wandering we discovered Honeymoon Island Beach State Park.In an earlier blog post, The Value of Rest, I wrote about the importance of taking a break from the day to day. When I was in band and orchestra, I played clarinet. I learned about how important the rest during the music is. It stands true for life and exercise, as well. While someone else is busy, you rest. While you work, someone else rests. Life feels much better when you aren't so frazzled!
On another note, sunshine is important for your health because your body needs it to produce it's own vitamin D. You need 15 minutes a day of unprotected sun exposure to get your daily amount. That flies in the face of the "wear sunscreen all the time" messages we get. You may be able to get it by being near a window in your home.If your doctor determines you are low with this vitamin, will probably have to take vitamin D, like I do. You avoid a host of health problems this way. Do wear sunscreen outside to prevent skin cancer.
In case you missed them:
Exercise Tip: Surfing
If you've seen "Soul Surfer", you'll notice Bethany Hamilton and her surfing friends are very fit and strong! Wishing you could hop on a board and hit the waves? Whether you can or can't, this is a great workout for those of you who would love a challenge! Check it out at ACE Fitness. Note: if you can't do the push-up claps, do the push-up, but quickly tap your shoulder with one hand, then do the next, alternating arms.
Nutrition Tip: Hair, Skin, and Nail Supplements May Be a Problem
A number of people, especially women, are concerned about hair loss, brittle nails, and poor skin quality. Hair, Skin, and Nail supplements are quite popular as a result. But beware! Read this for more information. Always check with your doctor before taking a new vitamin or mineral supplement.
May God bless your week!
