End of Week Review 4/7/2016

We are flying this week-literally! This post is going to be short because we will be out for a few days. Sorry, but the posts probably will be a bit odd, so check for updates. Our semi-normal will resume in the middle of next week. Thanks for your patience and loyal readership! You are the reason Totally Fit 4 Life exists.


I discovered an interesting article on Yahoo News this week you might be interested in reading. "The Cultish Call of Yoga Studios". Some people are shocked to find out that not only is a religious practice, but it also operates on a Master-Disciple Relationship. Not all of these practices are healthy nor are appropriate from a Western mindset. The foundational beliefs of Hinduism (yoga) and Zen Buddhism (martial arts) makes a huge difference because the founder-Master (in this case, Yogi)- is venerated much like a god. This is why I don't teach yoga and the Christian martial arts system I helped develop was firmly rooted in the Bible. That is why Totally Fit 4 Life has a No Zen Zone policy (see Thoughts in Zen and Christianity). I think you will find it an interesting read.

Grave's Disease
Someone I know shared a really neat essay about Grave's Disease on Facebook called "A Letter to You from Grave's Disease". It was very eye-opening what people with this autoimmune disease of the thyroid deal with day in and day out. If you or someone you know has this illness, check out Thyroid Hug.  There is a lot of information as well as support and tips.

Events
What would you think about a Summer Slim Down Challenge? It would be a fun, friendly challenge to help you avoid the summer cookout weight gain. If we have prizes, then there would have to be a nominal fee to help cover prizes ($5-10 per person?) Let me know what you think. It is only worth doing if you are interested. Exercise Tip: Gliding Fit
You've seen those furniture glider-things that make moving heavy furniture easy? Well, they inspired the exercise community several years ago. These nifty things are a great tool for a body weight workout! They are sold in store and online. Some are for carpet and some are for bare floors. Don't confuse them or you might be very sorry!  I love the challenge they give for stabilizing muscles, coordination, and core conditioning. Check out Fitness Magazine for their glide workout or ACE Slide Your Way Fit. Have safe fun!
