Snow Day! That's right. We've got a snow day! Yes, adults can have them, too. The snow is deep here in the Great Lakes area. I drove to Detroit yesterday so I could take Hubby to the eye doctor since his doctor needed to dilate his pupils. It was snowing when I left, but it wasn't bad--until after the appointment during lunch. I got stuck twice on my way home. I also fish-tailed in a couple of spots going 30 mph in a 70 mph zone! There were white-out conditions part of the way. So this morning, we found a heavy blanket of glistening white fluff outside about 12 inches worth. Hubby's boss said to stay home, so we slept in! Do you ever go through rough patches in life that scare the pants off you? Have you gotten stuck in your situation feeling totally alone? But when the bad stuff is over, it's peaceful and relaxing. You know then God has covered you as a mother hen protects her chicks (Luke 13:34-35). Take a snow day sometime even if you never have snow. Rest under God's wing. Sometimes, we need it!

Exercise of the Week: Medicine Ball Slams
Medicine balls are a great way to burn calories, strengthen, and work hand-eye coordination. If you have one and a good solid floor that won't get damaged if you repeatedly slam the weighted ball on it, try bouncing it on the floor first. Be sure to keep your face out of it's return line! Now that you know you can catch it, purposely pull your abs in tight as you do a full body slam with it on the floor in front of you. You get a fat burn and a core workout. Now, turning from the waist, slam it on the side using your waist to power the slam. Then try the other side. Did you kick up your heart rate? Try doing each one for 30 seconds each. Another time, try front, side, side, alternating each direction for a full 60 seconds. Set rest breaks between each set for 30-60 seconds.

Food Tip of the Week: Eat like a European
If you travel to most European countries, you will notice the heavier meal is at lunch. They never skip breakfast which is more filling than a bowl of cereal. They have a light snack in the middle of the afternoon. In the evening, usually late, they have what looks like lunch for dinner! It normally consists of bread or crackers, lunch meat and cheese or a meat spread, veggies and fruit. There aren't a lot of boxed and canned foods around. They go to the store every other day for bread and fresh produce.
This flip does a few things:
1. Fuels the body for work during the day.
2. Reduces the amount of food for the body to digest overnight, allowing the body to fully rest.
3. Reduces the carb intake at bedtime because the body needs less fuel overnight. You should be hungry when you wake up. The sandwich at dinner is only one slice of bread instead of the two Americans have grown accustomed to.
4. Very little foods there are highly processed or prepackaged. The nutritional value is greater with the fats, sugars, salts, and preservatives being limited or eliminated.
