Refreshment for Your Journey

I have chosen the theme, "Find Refreshment for Your Journey" for Totally Fit 4 Life because when we immerse ourselves in the life-changing love of Jesus, we are refreshed and renewed. We aren't able to make life-lasting changes on the outside until we are transformed by the renewing of our minds and attitude of our hearts.Romans 12:1-3 , John 4:13-14, andJohn 7:37-38 sum up the entirety of this theme. Let's look at this together.

Often we are caught up in what we want to do with our bodies like look a certain way or participate in activities we want to do. God's Word clearly says that we are not our own, but His. Not only are we His, but we are to serve Him with our bodies. There are people who need the ministry only we can offer."I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service." Romans 12:1

We must view our bodies in a different light. You've heard people say to those trying to lose weight or manage their health, they should do it for themselves. Although it sounds nice, it is really meant to keep us from getting stuck in co-dependent relationships which obligate us to do everything for "them". We must take on a new mindset to offer our bodies as a living sacrifice to the Lord and serve others. "And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God." Romans 12:2

This concept shoots the gym mentality out of the water! Most people go to the gym only to look good and feel good. Who is that really for? Self. In order for us to offer our bodies as a living sacrifice for Him, we have to change our mindsets by seeing ourselves as we truly are. "For I say, through the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think soberly, as God has dealt to each one a measure of faith." Romans 12:3

So we lose weight by adopting a healthy lifestyle not only for ourselves, but also for God and others! This all begins by drinking at the well of Living Water, Jesus. Jesus referred to Himself as the "Living Water" anyone who comes to Him will never thirst. (John 4:13-14)  When we think about water, what comes to mind are several things: peace, tranquility, power, refreshment, hydration, nourishment, life. Jesus offers us all of those things when we come to Him. Out of us flows a well of living water as a result of spending time with Jesus. We are filled up so we go out an fill others by bringing them to Him. (John 7:37-38) We are better able to serve Him when we offer Him more of ourselves.

Once we understand God's tremendous love for us, we are freed from those things which weight us down, cause us anxiety, harm us, and lie to us. This song from David Crowder Band brings about the power of God with the tremendous love for us that sweeps us away and overwhelms us. It is only through that love, we can love Him with all that we are. When we know that love and love Him with all that we are, we are able to love others as we love ourselves,  laying down our own lives for someone else in His Name.

Take the time to reflect on our Lord and Savior as you listen to "Oh, How He Loves Us" by David Crowder Band.  May God bless you!
