Angels at Work

Back in the 90's a obsession with angels hit the bookstores. The t.v. series "Touched by an Angel" was very popular. Some people began consulting with their "angel guides". This movement was definitely over the top! As a response to all the angel-hype, Billy Graham wrote a book called simply, Angels. The focus was on what the Bible said about these heavenly beings also created by God. Angels are real servants of our God, and not to be worshipped 1 Peter 3:21-22, They are definitely important to the Kingdom of God. What are they? What is their mission? What is their role in Jesus' coming to earth? What does that mean for us now?

What are Angels?
Angels are spiritual beings created by God to serve Him in several roles. They do not have a physical form, although they have appeared to people in what seems to be a physical form Genesis 19:1-3, 15. The artists' renderings make us think they have wings, from some of the descriptions in the Bible Judges 13:19-21. When you look at specific passages, some fly or move swiftly in the air, some carry swords Numbers 22:23, usually brilliantly bright, appear in masculine form although they don't have gender Matthew 22:30, and are beautiful to behold. Some angels were cast out of heaven with Lucifer, aka. Satan, because of rebellion to God Isaiah 14:11-13. These are not agents of God. They are deceptive, crafty, and mean. No one should ever mess with these as it will cause certain destruction in one's life. Instead, their future is doomed 1 Peter 2:4, Jude 1:6 .They sometimes appear as God's angels, but are not 2 Corinthians 11:14. Angels are a creation of God designed to serve God in various ways.

What is their Mission? God's angels serve God's purposes whether it be ministering to Him around His throne Psalm 103:19-21. Psalm 91:11,, fighting heavenly battles against demons, protecting the people God chooses to protect Daniel 6:22, give messages Judges 2:4, and execute judgement.  Matthew 13:38-40,

What is their role in Jesus" Coming to Earth?
Angels were involved in several ways with Jesus' birth Luke 1.The Lord told Zacharias the high priest he would have a son named John who would be great and had a special mission. Because of his doubt, he was struck mute. Even though this was about John the Baptist's birth, John prepared the way for Jesus. One came to Mary to tell her that she would be the mother of the Savior. Angel told Joseph to take Mary as his wife because she was not unfaithful, but carried the Savior in her womb Matthew 1:18-25. Angels announced His birth to the shepherds out in the fields Luke 2:8-15.The birth of Jesus Christ was so important God involved His angels, Gabriel in particular, to announce His birth.

If God would have His angels proclaim Jesus' birth how much more important it is for us to share our Savior with the world! He held nothing back and neither should we. Use this wonderful time as you platform to tell people about Jesus with love and compassion. There is a whole world out there who doesn't know who He is. Share the Good News. May God bless you!
