Work Day Binge Busters

Do you binge on foods over the weekend causing you to gain weight or bloat? A lot of people do, you know.  It may be a couple of reasons: 1) you may not have been able to get enough of what you needed during the work days and 2) the stress hormones from a hectic week prompt us to store up for another round of "battle".  You need to properly fuel your body to carry you through your work days. Try this during your workday: Have a snack!

Our bodies need a steady source of fuel. The problem comes when we reach for junk we crave like salty, crunchy potato chips from the vending machine or the sweet, gooey Hostess Ho-Hos. Neither one meets your real need: fuel. They just pack on pounds of guilt.  I keep Larabars with me. they are a source of instant carbs from the fruit and protein from the nuts. Other bars like Kind bars would also do the trick. You can also try some of the protein bars on the market. Watch out for the fats and sugar alcohols, though. They can also be pricey. You are welcome to make a Power Snack and put it in snack size baggies for your week. My hubby loves this one.  Keep 2 with you. See ecipe below. It will balance your blood sugar levels and curb hunger.

Super stressed? Go for a walk in the fresh air, if possible. But you can also calm down by doing this: Go somewhere calm and quiet. Breathe deeply and exhale fully.  Clench your fists on the inhale, allow your fists to unclench and your body relax on the exhale.  Do this 2 or 3 times, if possible. Pray during this time.  Doing this will reduce the stress hormones, give you better mental clarity and invite God in to take care of things which are too much for you.

Power Snack Mix
You will need Chex cereal (wheat, rice and/or corn), pretzels, nuts and dried fruit.

2 cups of Chex cereal, you may toast in the oven if you prefer
1 cup low salt pretzels
2/3 cup of raw almonds, pistacchios or any other nut that is lower in fat
2/3 cup dried fruit of choice (raisins, Craisins, etc.)

Put into a large bowl with a lid.  Shake bowl around to mix thoroughly. Divide out into snack size baggies.  Enjoy!
