Torch It!

Here we are in the middle of summer with scores of people flocking to  the beach while you are hiding. Your bikini is tucked away and your are afraid to put it on for fear it will snap right off your body. Feeling blue about your looks this summer? I will say that some people need to re-think the swimsuits they wear out and about. But what do you do? There are some things you could do: 1) buy a tasteful bathing suit that flatters your current figure, 2) blast some pounds off, or 3) do both. If you are insistent that you WILL look great in your bikini, then this post is for you!



Abandon your current workout.

If you've been doing the same workout for a while, it's time to change. Challenge your body with something different. Just doing a cardio and weights workout wears out quickly. Try doing cardio intervals  mixed with combo exercises like lunges with bicep curls or planks with reverse flys. Change your reps to time segments, say 30 seconds with 60 second rest intervals between sets. Do a different class like spinning or HIIT It! Whatever you do, changing things will give your body a boost while becoming interesting again.

Kick up the heat.

Functional exercise with an athletic twist will blast some serious fat. By recruiting all the muscle fibers in your body instead of targeting one body part at a time, you will create a new burn. Burpees are a common staple in these groups, but there are other great exercises, too. Shuttle runs, inchworms, pushup/side planks, and jump squats require a lot of energy from your muscles. One word of caution, don't worry about keeping up with your neighbor. If they've been in the group a long time and you are the newbie, you will be sorry! You still have to be able to walk out of the gym when the workout is done.

Sculpt it.

Maybe all you really need is to firm some spots up.  I always do this with my clients, regardless of the workouts they choose. Why? It helps firm areas like abs, buns, thighs, and the dreaded wing! If your backside is saggy, try squats with reverse leg lifts, followed by lunge-twists, to plies with a weight ball overhead press, to side-lunge slides. Just remember that you can't spot burn fat. Your cardio and intervals do that. This suggestion takes areas that need tightening and toning to a help reveal the new you.

If all else fails and there's not enough time before you go, try both! Torch the pounds and buy a figure flattering suit that makes you look fantastic is a great choice. To be totally honest, most of the bikinis women wear are not designed to make anyone look good.We ladies are pretty rough on ourselves anyway.  I wore one for my honeymoon last year and wore it well at 51. However, I have to say that I was self conscious. A tasteful two piece which hides or smooths some rolls may give you a sigh of relief. How about a monokini? Some of the tummy troubles are still covered. What about a cute swim skirt for the bottoms and a bandeau top? There are some fantastic one pieces out there on the clearance racks, too. You can still get some sun and look great. If the truth were told, I think the bikini can be over-rated. The reason to be on the beach is to enjoy the vacation, isn't it? It's more fun to enjoy the time than tugging and pulling tiny pieces of fabric back where they belong.
