On our anniversary trip to Niagara Falls, we visited historic Niagara-on-the-Lake. There we discovered a fantastic trail system as part of the Niagara Falls Park system in Canada. As we were driving along to see one of the historic sites, we found the Whirlpool and the Ontario Power Plant powered by the Niagara Falls. There was a great trail for jogging, biking, and hiking. We looked at each other, "We should have brought our bikes!" We didn't because we didn't know about this spot! So I am sharing a bit with you so if you venture this way, you will be able to enjoy your exercise outdoors when you come to see the Falls.
As we continued along the historic pathway, we stopped at the McFarland House. Beside it was a wonderful park with trails for jogging, hiking, biking, inline skating, etc. Families and individuals were having a great time outside together and exercising while they had fun! While we were waiting for our tour we wandered around the park and discovered a bike rental place. It was certainly tempting, until we decided it wasn't wise since I had pulled a hamstring recently. Ugh! My wings are clipped! We'll remember our bikes the next time. Hopefully there won't be any injuries to hinder our fun. The trail system runs along the Niagara River.
If you decide to visit the Falls in Canada, you will need a passport. There are lots of historic sites, farm markets, beautiful homes, and natural attractions along the way on the trails. For more information check their website at http://www.niagaraparks.com/.
Headed other places? Check the state and national park systems' websites before you go. We will the next time.
May God bless you!
