End of Week Review 5/1/2015

Wow! Spring has sprung. Hopefully, there is no more snow or cold for you where you live.  I have to say that last week, we came home from Florida to cold 30 degrees and a dusting of snow. Brrrr! You can enjoy the outdoors and the activities that go with warmer weather.

I love health and fitness today compared to when Richard Simons had his aerobic classes on t.v. (shhhhh! Don't tell anyone I used to work out to those as a new mom!) No longer is exercise boring or impossible.  There is a form of exercise for everyone with different likes, needs, goals, and abilities.

Food of the Week: Broccoli

Broccoli is a delicious veggie that can be eaten raw or cooked. There are only 31 calories for a 1 cup serving! Broccoli is full of potassium, protein, vitamins A, C, and K, calcium, and iron magnesium, phosphorus, folate and choline. It contains both Omega-3 and -6 fatty acids, and plenty of fiber. Eat it raw, on salads, steamed, roasted, however you like it. But please, don't hide it overcooked in a soup of cheese or you defeat your health and weight loss goals. www.nutritiondata.self.com.   pic from fatsecret.com

Exercise of the Week: Inchworms

I love giving this one to my weight loss and hard workout clients! Begin standing, bend at the hips with soft knees, with feet fixed to floor, hand walk out into a plank position. Next with hands fixed, walk feet up to hands. Stand up or walk hands back out again. For a great fat burner, do 10 jumping jax, inchworm across 1/2 court, 10 jumping jax, then inchworm back. Caution: when doing this type of workout, wear a heart rate monitor. If you did a full 1 hour athletic workout like this sample, you will spike your heart rate. It works the aerobic and anaerobic pathways at the same time. Optional: Add a pushup when in plank. Pic from pixgood.com.
